Wirex: Repositioning & Brand Strategy for a 300-Person Fintech R&D Center

6M+ users. Zero narrative coherence. I built a GTM and brand strategy for Wirex R&D that pulled together the crypto market, B2B product dynamics, and the human layer most rebrands skip.

Giving a global fintech R&D organization a narrative to match its technology

Wirex is a British fintech company with 6M+ users and a strong presence across crypto and digital finance.

Its R&D center had the technology, people, and scale, but its story wasn't keeping up.

The challenge was to create a clearer narrative for a 300-person technology organization operating at the intersection of fintech, crypto, DeFi, and Web3.

The challenge

Wirex had grown into a complex organization serving both crypto-native and mainstream audiences.

The R&D center was responsible for building the technology behind that evolution, but its identity and communication didn't fully reflect its capabilities or ambition.

The rebrand needed to do more than make the organization look different.

It needed to clarify what the R&D center was building, why it mattered, and where Wirex was heading next, while making the story credible to employees, users, partners, media, and the wider technology ecosystem.

What I did

Research & Strategic Discovery
Conducted in-depth research into the company's internal processes and interviewed C-level executives, users, and team members to understand the organization from multiple perspectives.

The research became the foundation for the new narrative rather than treating the rebrand as a purely visual exercise.

Positioning & Value Proposition
Crafted a new value proposition highlighting the organization's technological edge and defining a clearer story around its role within Wirex.

The strategic narrative supported Wirex's evolution from a crypto-friendly fintech platform toward a DeFi + CeFi product ecosystem, with a broader ambition to lead in the Web3 space.

Brand & Narrative Strategy
Repositioned the R&D center for both crypto-native and mainstream audiences across Europe, connecting technical capabilities with a more accessible and human narrative.

Communications & PR
Developed communication and PR strategies that generated coverage across major European media and technology platforms, including Finextra, Sifted, DOU, Just Geek IT, and Hackernoon.

Ecosystem & Partnership Communications
Supported partnerships with technology and blockchain ecosystems including Polygon, Avalanche, and 1inch by developing and distributing partnership stories through crypto and technology media.

Employer & Corporate Brand
Initiated special media projects focused on Wirex's mission and corporate culture, helping bring the people behind the technology into the brand narrative.

Executive & Founder-Led Communication
Created 20+ pieces of content for the CTO's personal brand channels and initiated photography sessions for key members of the team.

The goal was to make the expertise inside the organization visible — not just the product.

Corporate Social Responsibility
Managed a CSR program in collaboration with charity foundations, including monthly cryptocurrency donations.

Online Reputation
Worked with SMM, SEO, and SERM agencies to improve the company's online reputation by 20%.

The takeaway

For a technology organization operating across fintech and crypto, the real brand work is deciding what the organization should mean to different audiences, and creating enough consistency for that meaning to stick.

Wirex had the scale, technology, partnerships, and people.

The challenge was turning all of those pieces into a story people could understand.

That meant connecting the technology to the market, the company to its people, and the product ambition to a narrative that could travel across media, partnerships, and the wider Web3 ecosystem.
